To improve combustion efficiency, Mr. Veerappa recommended electronic fuel-air ratio regulators and fully
modulating burners to control the oven temperature
rather than high-fire/low-fire burners. Another option
includes relying on automatic switchovers to low-fire
settings during production gaps and balancing the oven
air flow using VFDs for recirculation and exhaust fans.
Gerard Nelson, sales manager with Spooner Vicars,
suggested that many businesses misunderstand the potential upside of green initiatives that comply with regulations. "Companies think that adhering to strict environmental laws could reduce their profitability," he said.
"But looking into long-term prospects, companies could
save money since they are able to lower the input cost
and reduce wastage."
Saving a few pennies with a shrinking carbon footprint helps everyone go green in more ways than one.
