Q. What's possible at the Wenger
Technical Center?
A. Food producers who are researching new
extruded food ideas can use this facility to
enhance their own R&D efforts, reducing development
time. There are several full-size
single and twin screw extruder systems available,
along with horizontal dryers, cutting
and milling options, and coating equipment
that allow a customer to test new products in
a true production environment. Customers
can test ingredients, formulations, and methods
to explore various product options that
can then scale to their commercial extrusion
operations. In addition to product runs, the
Technical Center is used for customer seminars
and trainings to learn best practices for
equipment operation.
Q. What makes the Technical
Center unique?
A. The largest facility of its kind, this 50,000 ft2
center includes commercial scale production
equipment, mixing/blending areas, conveying
systems, meeting rooms, a kitchen/food prep
area, an onsite laboratory, and broadcast facilities.
The Technical Center has segregated areas
for human nutrition and pet food/aquatic feed.

Q. Is travel to the Wenger Technical
Center required for customer
test runs?
A. Being on-site has many advantages, however
Wenger offers state-of-the-art remote
access for customer team members located
in other areas. Remote participates can view
product runs in real time using high defi
nition cameras
installed throughout
Customers can supply their own ingredients
for trials, or use Wenger supplied ingredients
- or a mixture of both. Customers have access
to the production equipment and can work directly
with Wenger technicians during trials to
make adjustments or try different variations.
Wenger has a wide variety of die assemblies for
use as well as cutters, mills, shredders, formers,
and other postextrusion devices.
Q. What technical assistance can
customers expect from Wenger?
A. Wenger has earned worldwide recognition
for expertise in the extrusion cooking
process. This process knowledge, based
on decades of experience, is beneficial for
customers who know what
they want
to
achieve, but may need assistance on how to
achieve their target product. The Technical

input on virtually any stage of the production

moisture and density control, product
