Second Nature acquires
Voortman cookie business
Second Nature Brands is acquiring the Voortman cookie business
from the J.M. Smucker Co., Orrville, Ohio, for approximately $305
million. The transaction includes a leased manufacturing plant in
Burlington, Ontario, and approximately 300 employees who will
transition with the business.

our better snacking and treating portfolio of brands, " said Victor
Mehren, chief executive officer of Second Nature Brands. " The acquisition
of Voortman broadens
our scale within the cookie
category and unlocks new
opportunities and capabilities
for future growth. "
Second Nature Brands
is a portfolio company
of the private equity firm
CapVest Partners LLP, New York. Other brands in the Second
Nature portfolio include Second Nature Snacks, Sahale Snacks and
Brownie Brittle.

Grupo Bimbo earns best
employer recognition
Grupo Bimbo SAB de CV, Mexico City, was named to the World's
Best Employers list for the first time. The list was compiled by
the global edition of Forbes magazine and the research company
Statista. Grupo Bimbo ranked 744 out of the 850 organizations
featured in this year's list.
To determine the World's Best Employers list, Forbes and
Statista surveyed more than 300,000 employees in more than 50
countries, all of whom work for multinational companies that
have more than 1,000 employees and operate in at least two of the
six continental regions of the world. The listed companies represent
multinational companies that prioritize employee well-being;

ABA appoints two new
board members
The American Bakers Association (ABA) named two new board
members to fill open seats for the 2024-26 term: Kim AlbersNisbet
and Carrie Jones-Barber.
Albers-Nisbet is chief executive officer of Franz Family Bakery,
also known as United States Bakery, Portland, Ore. She has been
in the baking industry for more than 30 years, working with small
profile specialty bakeries and commercial high-speed operations,
according to the ABA.
Jones-Barber is the CEO of Jackson, Mich.-based Dawn Foods
Products Inc. She has used her understanding of international
business and her experience leading international growth at
Dawn to help expand the company into a multi-billion-dollar
company that puts people and values first, the ABA said.
" We are thrilled to welcome Kim and Carrie to the ABA board
during such a pivotal time for our industry, " said Eric Dell, president
and CEO of the ABA. " The surge of interest from members
eager to serve and contribute to the baking sector underscores the

Nathan Norris, Highland
Baking's DEI director, dies
Nathan Norris Sr., director of diversity, equity and inclusion
(DEI) for Highland Baking Co., Northbrook, Ill., and a member
of the American Society of Baking (ASB) board of directors, died
on Oct. 30. He was 64.
Born May 16, 1960, in Zanesville, Ohio, to the
late Ervin E. Norris Sr. and Dorothy Martinia,
Norris served in the US Army for 18 years as a
Sergeant First Class and an instructor.
His career in the baking industry began at
Norris
Wendy's New Bakery Co., Zanesville, Ohio,
where he spent more than 35 years as a production
worker, production supervisor and eventually operations
manager.
Norris then spent almost two years working for East Balt
Bakeries, Chicago, before joining Northbrook, Ill.-based Highland
Baking Co.'s Spartanburg, SC, operation. He worked for four years
as plant manager before assuming the role of director of diversity,
equity and inclusion in May 2021.
He joined ASB's board of directors in 2016 and became the
organization's secretary and treasurer in 2020. Active in industry
events and a strong proponent of DEI programs, Norris participated
in both BEMA and IBIE panel discussions that explored
diversity initiatives in the baking industry.
