Miller Baking Co., Milwaukee, makers of Pretzilla Soft Pretzel Bread, named Marc
Essenfeld as CEO. Mr. Essenfeld will lead the business under owner Brian Miller,
who is stepping back as CEO to focus on innovation and marketing.
John Maguire joined MOD Super Fast Pizza Holdings, Seattle, as COO.
Vipul Chawla has been promoted to president of Pizza Hut International,
Louisville, KY.
Dave Hansen was named vice-president of sales at Silver Hills Bakery, Abbotsford, BC.
Patrick Grismer was named executive vice-president and CFO for Starbucks Corp.,
Seattle. He succeeds Scott Maw, who will retire as executive vice-president and CFO.
Tammy Christian was appointed as account manager for Baker Perkins,
Peterborough, UK, covering the western US region.
Benchmark, Statham, GA, appointed Craig Venskus as regional sales manager for
its northeast and eastern Canada region.
Kemin Industries, Des Moines, appointed Anita Srivastava, PhD, as senior product
development manager for bakery applications.
Tromp Group, Gorinchem, The Netherlands, installed Hans Herman Doude as
vice-president of marketing and sales. Mr. Doude will lead the Tromp Group and
AMF Bakery Systems sales teams in Europe, Middle East and China.

In Memoriam

Bryan Jr.

John Bryan Jr., longtime chairman and CEO of Sara Lee Corp.,
Downers Grove, IL, died Oct. 1. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Bryan led his family's specialty meat company, Bryan Packing Co.,
from 1960 until he sold the business to Consolidated Foods in 1968. In
1985, Mr. Bryan led a charge to change Consolidated Foods' name to Sara
Lee Corp., producer of frozen baked foods.

Virgil Del Ghingaro, who owned and led a specialty ingredient business for many years, died Sept. 28.
Mr. Del Ghingaro was the longtime owner of Brolite Products,
Streamwood, IL, a maker of baking ingredients such as cultures and
starters, dough improvers, bases, mixes and concentrates. He was active
Del Ghingaro
in the business, now led by the second and third generations of his family, until just before his death.

Bimbo Bakeries USA, Horsham,
PA, plans to close its baking plant
in Madison, WI, by January 2019.
The facility makes bread and buns
sold under the Sara Lee brand.
Dieffenbach's Potato Chips,
Womelsdorf, PA, completed the
expansion of its new production facility in Bethel, PA. The
106,000-sq-ft facility includes a
new distribution center and additional production lines.
Hearthside Food Solutions,
Downers Grove, IL, has reached
an agreement to acquire
Greencore USA, Danvers, MA,
and a former Kellogg Company
facility in Seelyville, IN. With
these acquisitions, Hearthside
expands its network to 39 production facilities in the US
and Europe.
AAK, Karlshamn, Sweden, provider of vegetable oil and fats, opened
a new Customer Innovation
Center in Singapore.
The Andersons, Maumee, OH,
acquired Naperville, IL-based NuWorld Foods, a supplier of glutenfree food products and ancient
grain ingredients.
The Barry Callebaut Group,
Zurich, has reached an agreement
to acquire Inforum, Kasimov,
Russia, maker of chocolate, coatings and fillings.
Rheon USA, Teterboro, NJ,
opened its new New Jersey east
branch office and lab. The lab
houses about $2 million worth
of Rheon equipment available
for new and potential customers
to test products. The lab will be
available for seminars as well as
product testing for customers.
