Forecasting bakery trends and growth
As a category, bakery is huge in terms of potential to drive sales at the retail level, and
not just by department but also across the store. This was the message from Todd Hale,
principal, Todd Hale Associates, LLC, when he gave his trend report to attendees of the
American Bakers Association (ABA) annual convention.
Based on his most recent research, Mr. Hale had seven predictions for ABA members
to focus on for leveraging growth. Among his predictions were that the stars are aligning for growth, that there will be innovation from clean clean label, ethnic, comfort and
convenience categories, that fresh ideas will find the center of the store and private brands
will see a resurgence.
"Yes, there are headwinds out there, but tailwinds are out there that should allow us
to drive that growth," Mr. Hale said. "But you can't watch on the sidelines. You have to
invest in growth."
ARYZTA, Zurich, Switzerland, appointed Gregory Sklikas as
CEO Europe as a successor to Dermot Murphy, who stepped
down from his position.
Paulette Alviti was named chief human resources officer for
Mondelez International, Deerfield, IL.
Sergio Caballero will serve as the new senior sales account
manager for North America, at Auto-Bake, Plano, TX, a
Middleby Company, and manufacturer of industrial baking
ovens and systems.
Scott Bieker joined Corbion, Lenexa KS, as vice-president,
Bakery Sales, and will report to Mark Hotze, vice-president,
North America, in that capacity.
Dynamic Conveyor Corp., Norton Shores, MI, hired Andrew
Hartline as sales manager to support growing sales of DynaCon
and DynaClean Conveying Systems.
Engineers Taylor Norton and Sam Blomfield have been reassigned and will now work under John Eiler, director of R&D,
LeMatic Inc., Jackson, MI, and focus on R&D, in addition
Liming Cai, PhD, was promoted to the role of principal scientist
at MGP Ingredients, Atchison, KS.
Kelly Wiens was hired as marketing manager for Shick Esteve,
Kansas City, MO.
Shuttleworth, Huntington, IN, a ProMach brand, promoted John
Naunas to vice-president, sales, for its US operations.

in Fort Wayne after undertaking a
company-wide capacity and logistical analysis.
Cargill, Minnetonka, MN, said it
is investing $20 million to expand
its Big Lake, MN, egg processing facility. The expansion will
include capabilities to pasteurize, mix and cook additional egg
products for foodservice and protein ingredient customers.
